Why choose Organic to put on our skin
"Beauty with no nasties
The skin is the body's largest organ, and an active barrier between our bodies and the environment. It's well known that what you put on your skin ends up in your body - just think of nicotine patches. That's why we believe it's really important to know exactly what's in the products you use on your skin.
Over the last 50 years, tens of thousands of new chemicals have been developed, most of which have never been properly tested on humans. We absorb a huge array of these synthetic chemicals through our food, our toiletries, and our immediate environment, and whilst we may not be able to avoid all of these chemicals, we believe it makes sense to do what we can to minimise contact wherever possible.
What's in our products?
When it comes to ingredients, we pride ourselves on our honesty, integrity and transparency. We make our products with the maximum organic, natural and wild ingredients, and carefully select other functional ingredients (detergents, emulsifiers, surfactants etc) with a view to safety, efficacy and biodegradability. Our entire range makes use of high quality organic plant-based ingredients, and we fully disclose our ingredient information with our customers, both online and, where space allows, on our packaging.
What's not in our products
We believe that what you leave out of a product can be as important as what you put in. Here's just a few of the ingredients you won't find in any of our products, and why:
- No silicones - they coat skin, and impede its natural function
- No mineral oils - derived from petroleum, and have a tendency to block the skin
- No parabens - these are linked to hormonal imbalances
- No GM ingredients - not enough is known about possible long-term implications
- No phthalates - it's reported they have toxic impact on humans and animal life
- No propylene glycol - derived from petroleum
- No animal testing - unnecessary and cruel
- No DEA - associated with known carcinogens
- No EDTA - (powerful metal chelator), and doesn’t biodegrade readily
- No acrylates - derived from petroleum
- No nano - not enough is known about its long term implications
- No BHT - linked to breathing and lung impairment
Why Choose Organic
We believe that choosing organic, whether it's your daily bread, your t-shirt or your moisturiser, is one of the most important ways we can all, as consumers, make a positive change in the world, while supporting our own health.
Our mission is to make the safest, purest, most ethical and effective products in the world. We believe passionately in leading by example. We want to make ethical organic the new normal, and we have proof organic works!
So whether you fully embrace all things organic, or choose one small thing to make a big difference, it all adds up to a healthier world, and a healthier you.
What is organic farming?
Organic farming is based on a holistic approach that respects the power of natural processes. According to EU guidelines, organic farming practices are "designed to minimise the human impact on the environment, while ensuring the agricultural system operates as naturally as possible".
- Rotates crops to build a healthy soil
- Uses compost, farmyard manure and 'plough-in' crops like clover
- Encourages wildlife to naturally help control pests
- Ensures the highest animal welfare standards
- Maintains a diversity of crops to help break cycles of pests and disease
What's natural, but not organic
As 'organic' refers to a system of farming, and the crops/ingredients produced, it can only cover agricultural produce - which means pure natural ingredients such as water, clay, minerals and salt can't be called 'organic'.
Organic is different. How we farm can affect the quality of the food we eat.
Research published in the British Journal of Nutrition has found significant differences between organic and non-organic farming.
Organic to Our Roots
We always choose the highest quality, most effective ingredients for our natural health & beauty care.
With up to 68% more beneficial antioxidants than their conventional counterparts, organic ingredients are naturally more protective against ageing free radicals.
Soil Association certification ensures the maximum organic ingredients are used in a product, and that all organic ingredients are clearly labelled.
Certification also bans ingredients with health or environmental concerns, including GMOs and nano-particles, and of course it's the best way to avoid hidden agro-chemical residues.
Proof Organic Works
The Soil Associations' specific Health & Beauty standards allow for the use of innovative naturally-derived ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, plant meristem cells and peptides - allowing us to create certified organic skincare with premium performance.
Our clinical trials, conducted in compliance with the World Medical Association declaration of Helsinki and with the Colipa Guidelines, show just how effective our ground-breaking certified organic formulations are.
Our Frankincense Intense collection is a perfect example and proof organic works!"
